Ernest Holmes from Chattanooga Tennessee chopped his 1913 Cadillac in half and rigged it up so that he could pull trucks out of ditches. The day before someone flipped their Model T in a ditch and it took all day with 6 men to get it out. He figured there had to be a better way. He went back to his shop and the tow truck was born.

If you would like to learn more visit International Towing Museum

The show was very enlightening and if you get a chance to see it I recommend doing so. Here is the preview from the History Channel.

Greg wanted everyone to see his Classic Cadillac after we put up pics of his friend Jim’s 1967 Cadillac last week.

I am a friend of Jim’s in Mississippi whose sent you images of his 1967 Sedan de Ville. He thought you and your readers might enjoy my 1967 Eldorado. That color? Capri Aqua Metallic!

I love the way the paint jumps off the screen. This must be a real beauty to see in person. I don’t think I have seen a Cadillac in this color.

Thanks Greg for sending the pictures in.

Tell Us About Your Cadillac

For years now I have been doing the post by email and uploading the pictures. I am testing out a new service that allows our members to upload their own pictures and tell their story just like Greg did above. After Sharing your Cadillac story with us I will put it up for all to enjoy. Of course you can still send me an email with details and pictures if you like.

Help out the Cadillac Club

Are you on Facebook, Twitter or Google+. If you are you can help spread the word every time I make a post by clicking on the Like, Tweet or Google+ buttons that are always on the bottom of the page. This helps more Cadillac owners find the site and share their pictures with us all. I know our group is a little older(and wiser)than most of the kids on these social networks but it really does help and I appreciate all the love I can get to the site.

If you are on Twitter you can add our site to your profile. After you log in go to SETTINGS then PROFILE you will see a section that says WEB just enter http://www.cadillaccountryclub.com in the space and hit save. If you need help just let me know. Vinny@cadillaccountryclub.com

Thanks Vinny

When the Mayor gave the mandatory order I decided that houses can be replaced but your life can’t. I have received over 50 emails asking if I was ok so I figure I make a post to let everyone know we are ok. The water was about a foot from coming in my house as you can see from the picture.

Jim’s 1967 Cadillac Sedan DeVille Hard Top

This week I received an email from Jim with pictures of his 1967 Cadillac. Here is the email:

Good morning Vinny,

I am pleased to have joined your Cadillac Country Club, one of my best friends in Dallas sent me the info. I actually got him to buy his first old Cadillac a few years ago. I own and attached a few pics a 67 Cadi Sedan deVille hard top. I have had the car for about 7 yrs and have had no major problems it is amazing how well built these cars are. I am deeply in love with the new Cadillac Ciel. I can only hope it goes to production, but like the XLR it can happen ( which by the way I have an 05 XLR). Look forward to chatting with other Cadillac lovers!

I got the urge for this Cadillac year after Wayne from New Zealand sent in some beautiful pictures of his 1957 Cadillac that is restored to original condition. Here is Wayne’s email to me along with a page to the rest of his pictures.

Hi Vinny,

I bought this 57 Cadillac in March 2010 which was imported to New Zealand from the US. I have done a lot of mechanical work on it to bring it up to a road worthy state. It is totally original apart from the wheels and is in excellent condition. More photos to follow. Hope to hear from more Cadi fans.

Got an email last week from Michael in Sweden who asked for help identifying the Cadillac that his father owned when he was a kid. I will include two pictures of this Cadillac. Michael seems to think it is a 1949. I am not so sure after doing a little research I am thinking its older. The front bumper does not match a 1949 757 passenger or at least I can tell. Michael remembers that the Cadillac has 4 doors.

From time to time I get books to review in exchange for doing a write up, the other day I received a copy of Road Hogs by Eric Peters to review and I am very impressed. The book is 160 pages filled with images and information all about the big cars of the day. Once I opened the book I couldn’t put it down. Although the book isn’t all about Cadillacs the amount of Cadillacs in the book is a lot. There are over 165 color images of these big cars with many of them Cadillac. Needless to say I was very happy.

The author certainly has a passion about big cars from the 1960′s and 1970′s, the decades that GM built this big cars. The Cadillac on the cover really tells you what the book is about. Like I said above this book is filled with Cadillacs. There are pictures and information on Cadillac Eldorados, Eldorado Biarritz, Cadillac convertibles, Coupe Devilles, Sedan Devilles Fleetwood sixty or 75 limo’s.

The Eric’s passion for big grills and big V-8 power is evident in all the cars he picked out to write about, and there is nothing wrong with that. I am a fan of these cars also so I enjoyed seeing them. I actually learned a few things that I didn’t know. Some of the other cars he writes about are the Pontiac Catalina, Buick Electra, Buick Riviera, Chevy Monte Carlo, and one of my favorites the Chrysler Cordoba.

If you want to buy the book you can order the book through Amazon and when you do our site makes a buck or two which helps pay for our web hosting. Road Hogs: Detroit’s Big, Beautiful Luxury Performance Cars of the 1960s and 1970s.

I did a little video review of the book also which shows the quality of the pictures and the content. You can click on the video below and browse through the book with me.

Hope you are getting ready to enjoy the Super Bowl. It should be a good game between the Steelers and Packers.I think the Packers will win but I can see either team winning. Anyway here are some cool stories to read while you are waiting for the big game.

I just read a cool article on classic Cadillacs in Canada and how Dan Wells wanted to photograph some Cadillacs that he loved over the years. He got together a few owners and set up some cool shots. These Cadillacs from the 1950′s look really cool under the glow of the lights. It is nice to see someone that appreciates classic Cadillacs like myself. Great job Dan. Here is his story in the Edmonton Journal. You will love the pictures.

Ok this must have came from the weird ideas pile. If you want to get your girl a present and you want to include the Cadillac theme why not get her a pair of Cadillac Underwear. I just had to share this as it made me laugh for 1/2 hour.

Hope you enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Just got back from another trip to the Auto Collection show in Las Vegas. While most of the same Cadillacs were the same as my last trip a few months ago I did get a lesson in Cadillacs.

As I was walking around the show I came across a man name Jimmy Velvet who was there setting up his table. Jimmy was a close friend of Elvis and he has a book all about the photos he took over the years while he was touring. Just flipping through this book was an education in Cadillac history although that isn’t what the book is about. Jimmy has pictures of all the celebrities that he met over the years. I went through about 20 pages and saw many pictures of vintage Cadillacs usually with a celebrity in it. There was even a picture of Jimmy and Elvis mother standing in front of her Cadillac.

Jimmy and I hit it off and he told me some stories about Elvis’s Cadillacs and some that he owned also. Jimmy told me how he sold his 1949 Cadillac for $125, he told me about how they painted Elvis Cadillac from blue to pink before he gave it to his mother. It was really fascinating stuff for me and I hope to do an interview with Jimmy someday. We talked for about an hour as he was signing autographs. Although I didn’t know who Jimmy Velvet was at the time I became a fan of his. If you are a fan of celebrities of the 1950s and up I encourage you to get Inside the Dream book.

While I was researching this I found a couple of cool pages about Elvis Cadillac Elvis Cadillacs.
